Need to look at some Fredericksburg Texas hotels? I like Fredericksburg as a weekend-getaway.

It could be either just me and my wife, or we take the kids along. Either way, we usually sleep there are least one night.

Luckily Fredericksburg has many options for lodging. There are several bed-and-breakfasts and hotels to choose from. We have stayed in both types of lodging.

To help you find a hotel that you’ll like, here are our favorite… 

Fredericksburg Texas Hotels

Hangar Hotel

The Hangar Hotel is certainly a unique hotel that you won’t find at many places.

It is located at the Fredericksburg airport, which is about 2 miles outside town.  

The Hangar Hotel is beautifully decorated and takes you back to the 1940s with its decor. From the outside it looks like a World War II airplane hangar.

We have stayed in the Hangar Hotel several times and it was very good every time. It is fun to have breakfast while watching planes land or take off.

Keep in mind that the hotel does not have a pool. If that doesn’t bother you, give it a try. It is something different!

Inn on Barons Creek

The Inn on Barons Creek is another of our favorite Federicksburg Texas hotels.

It is a beautiful hotel that is so nicely decorated!

They have a very nice, heated pool. They offer a free, full breakfast. They even have a full service spa. Like most other hotels, they have internet access available. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.

The Inn on Baron’s Creek is really a magnificent place and I’m sure you’ll have a great stay there.

La Quinta Inn & Suites Fredericksburg

The La Quinta Inn & Suites is a good hotel in Fredericksburg too.

If you’ve stayed in La Quinta hotels before, you know more or less what to expect. This La Quinta is no different.

It offers free breakfast, free internet, and has a fitness center and nice pool. Pets are welcome too.

If don’t mind a little drive out of Frederickbsurg and want a different experience, take a look at Quiet Hill Ranch. It is about 25 miles out Fredericksburg and will take about 30 minutes to reach.

I like the German food and beer of Fredericksburg Texas. My wife loves the shopping that it is so well-known for. Fredericksburg is one of our favorite weekend getaways!

I had heard about Fredericksburg long before my family and I went there for the first time.

For some reason people mentioned Fredericksburg more in conversations than any other town in the area. It was always, “Oh, it’s so cool, you gotta go!”

Then, one day we went… what a pleasant surprise!

Here was this charming town with “old-style” stores lining the main street on both sides. Each of the stores seemed to have their own unique character. The sidewalks on both sides were full of people wandering up and down and in and out of stores.

I was immediately intrigued… and hooked… 

Our favorite activities in Fredericksburg are the shopping, the Nimitz museum, and Enchanted Rock. Here is more about them…

Shopping

Shopping is undoubtedly a major reason why people visit Fredericksburg Texas! I know that’s the main reason why we go.

The stores are mostly all along Main street. These are not impersonal chain stores… these are charming little stores, each with their own unique character. There are stores for just about any taste… a great variety of stores where everyone is likely to find something they like.

A fun aspect of shopping in Frederickburg is the sidewalk benches scattered along the way. I have enjoyed more than one beer, parked on one of the benches with the kids while Mom is inside a store fulfilling her life’s mission…

I’m not a big shopper, but shopping in Fredericksburg is different… it’s just part of the vibe!

Nimitz Museum

The Nimitz museum in Fredericksburg (aka The National Museum of the Pacific War) is a great place to take the kids, especially when they start getting tired of the shopping.

My kids’ “wow-factor” is all the cannons and guns on display. My “wow-factor” is the incredible history that is told so well.

The distraction of taking the kids to the Nimitz museum also buys my wife some extra shopping time. So everyone wins!

Enchanted Rock

Enchanted Rock is a fun place that we like to take the kids to. They love it there. When my parents visited from out-of-state a couple of years ago, we took them to Enchanted Rock, and they had a great time too.

Enchanted Rock is huge (and I mean massive!) rock about 20 miles outside Fredericksburg. It is great fun to climb to the top, which takes about 20 minutes. I just love the view from up there!

I think Enchanted Rock is well worth a visit.

Rockbox Theater

The Rockbox Theater, just off Main St, is something you simply have to visit! I first heard about the Rockbox from a friend who saw a show and insisted that we go.

They have fantastic musical shows that are very entertaining. The performers are incredibly talented. They also have a Christmas show every year.

This is some of the best live entertainment that you’ll find anywhere in Texas. Don’t miss it!

Fredericksburg Texas truly is a must-visit! For a small Hill Country town, it offers a lot!

A story about peaches in Fredericksburg…

When I grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado, I always looked forward to the summer because in that area there are a lot of orchards.

In the summer you get fresh cherries, apricots, all kinds of vegetables, and especially peaches. The Palisade peaches, you bite in to them and the juice just pours down your arm. They are soooo good!

Well, we moved to Texas when I was about 14 and come summer time, I was ready for some peaches, but when we got home from the store and bit into one of them rock hard peaches, I was sick… I couldn’t even get a drop of juice to come out and it was not sweet at all. So I forgot about peaches for a while.

Then about 3 years ago I heard some people talking about Fredericksburg and about the beer, the food shopping and how good the peaches are. I really didn’t think that they were realy going to be that good but I thought we will give it a try and check out the down town area while were there. My wife is all about shopping and good food so she was all in.

The drive was nice and we drove through a town called Johnson City and found out that its were the president LBJ is from.

Just before you get into Frederickburg, you see a metal bull sitting out in the front of someone’s land, with a few other artistic pieces. That marks about the beginning of the fruit stands and let me tell ya, the peaches are dynamite! When you bite into one of them gems, juice will run down your arm and they are sweet and delicious. I think they were just as good as Palisade peaches, if not better, and many believe that Palisade have the best tasting peaches in the world.

When we went to downtown Fredericksburg and walked around and saw all the history, the food, and the relaxed atmosphere, I think that was the best part!

That’s saying a lot cause I loooooove peaches in Fredericksburg!

There’s no doubt about it — RV camping fans love the Lone Star State!

There are many great places to go RV camping in Texas!

Here are ten great reasons to pack up the RV and take a family vacation to Texas: 

1. RV Camping to Abilene – This north Texas town played a big part in frontier days, and it offers visitors the chance to experience the Lone Star State during the days of cowboys and cattle drives. 5. Goliad State Park and Historic Sites – Park your RV at this state park northwest of Corpus Christi and then immerse yourself in Texas history. 8. San Antonio for RV Campers – The City of San Antonio, TX is filled with cultural, historic and just plain fun attractions for the entire family. 10. Toledo Bend Reservoir/Lake Sam Rayburn – Two top bass fishing lakes sit side-by-side on the Texas/Louisiana border. Toledo Bend Reservoir is surrounded by the unspoiled beauty of the Sabine National Forest and Lake Sam Rayburn cuts right through the middle of Angelina National Forest. If you’re looking for a spot to make an extended fishing and RV camping trip to Texas, these two lakes fill the bill!

The Quiet Hill Ranch is a little piece of heaven that is the most family friendly place our gang has ever been to.

The little log cottage, although not large, was tastefully decorated with original paintings, beamed ceilings and had many other amenities.

The view… it looks over this big valley with the hills coming down each side and it was spellbinding. At night there were only 4 lights in the far distance and at 2100′ elevation the stargazing around our campfire was awesome.

Quiet Hill Ranch also had a separate big log lodge with what they call The Ranch Room and The Mighty Kitchen. The ranch room had old timey wagon wheel furniture, books, games, puzzles, a toy box for the little ones, a piano, dining tables, and was topped off by a rugged fireplace. The kitchen had every thing we needed to cook all our meals. They had stocked the fridge with a delicious ‘real’ breakfast for us to cook whenever we wanted to.

In front of the lodge was a swimming pool fashioned after an old style ranch cistern but this was a big one, about 25′ across. The kids loved it. Behind the lodge was a complete playground with swings, slide, tower, sand box, horse shoes and a basketball goal.

There were many farm animals just walking around loose. There was this big old pig that was so fat he couldn’t open his eyes. He seemed perfectly content to eat our leftovers and nap in the shade. There was a donkey, a barn cat named Snoopy, and a little red barn with chickens. We loved gathering the eggs and cooking them for breakfast.

There is a place called the ‘Observatory’. I have never seen so many birds in one place in my life.

Okay, I’ve saved the best for last… HORSEBACK RIDES. Mr Jim, the owner wrangler of Quiet Hill Ranch, tells fascinating stories about the German pioneers, cowboys and Indians, and interesting tidbits about the land and how the use of it has changed over the years. Doing, seeing and hearing this while traveling through some of the most beautiful scenery on horseback was indescribable.
